The Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway in New York City has begun offering video blackjack to their customers, satiating a long-standing desire for punters to get in on the action.
The game is able to be offered following a provision that passed in April that allowed racinos in The Empire State to offer games of skill like blackjack and three card poker, provided those games are supplied through electronic gaming machines.
The games went live last week, with the first two terminals providing 24 seats for blackjack players to get this action on. Another 12 machines went live on launch day, and one week after the casino is expecting to have 98 blackjack machines live. The casino’s goal is to eventually have 500 machines, providing players with an alternative to traveling to New Jersey to play blackjack games.
Currently there is a lot of competition for the gambling dollars of New York players, as New Jersey has recently begun offering online gambling within their borders, and Pennsylvania has launched several land casinos, causing a lot of money to leave the borders.
Commenting on the release of the games, Empire City Casino Floor Manager Ryan Munroe said, “Every day on the floor I get a question. Now I have somewhere to send them.”
The game has also proven to be popular among players, who have already begun pumping big money into the machines.

Make your next trip to Empire City Casino even more fun by increasing your chances of winning big with these five strategic Blackjack tips. Remember, you can’t win if you don’t play the game. Game on!
Tip #1: Research basic blackjack strategy: There are many books and articles written on basic strategy available to the consumer on when to hit, stand, double down, and split. Memorizing the right decisions to make on your hand and following this strategy can increase your chances of becoming a winner and decrease the house’s edge by at least a couple percentages. Books and strategy guides will provide scenarios, such as the two below to help optimize your monetary return.
• Stand when your hand is 12-16 when the dealer has 2-6.
• Hit when your hand is 12-16 when the dealer has 7-Ace
Tip #2:Check the table limits/rules/payouts: Before you get comfortable at the table, make sure you are at the appropriate table for your bankroll. If you only have $50 allocated for blackjack, you may want to find a game with a minimum of $5.00 per hand so you can play for a longer period of time. Conversely, if you sit down with $50 and the table minimum is $25 you may only get to play two hands! There are also certain rules and payouts that will differ from table to table that you may want to consider.
Tip #3:Check the dealer’s up card (the card the dealer shows): Before you make any decisions on your own hand, you should check the dealer’s card that is showing. Is it a bad card (2 through 6) or a good card (7 through Ace)? When using basic strategy, the dealer’s up card will determine how you play the rest of your hand and determine how passive or aggressive your decisions need to be for optimizing your winning potential.
Tip #4:Don’t let other gamblers affect your decision: Sometimes other gamblers at the table with you may claim to be experts and attempt to sway your decisions. Always remember, you’re wagering with your money and the decisions you make will affect the outcome of your money at the end of the session. Be confident with your strategy and stick to it.

Tip #5:Be Responsible: As with any form of gambling you should set a limit on how much you’re comfortable losing and stick to it. Many times gamblers chase what they’ve already lost, causing them to dig a deeper hole for themselves. If you can afford to lose $200 and it starts to happen quickly because of a losing streak, take a break, have a bite to eat, and move on to a different table!
